Lebogang
Nkoane has a simple mantra in life. “Beer,
design, music and philosophy.”
Most of us
probably find that pretty easy to relate to. Certainly I do, though my tastes
have migrated from beer to good wine and great whisky. And of course South
Africa is blessed with some exceptional wines, which we, the connected
aficionado wannabees, work hard at sampling, going so far as to keep each other
updated on our latest palate busting exposes via Twitter. A brief search on
Twitter of #wine @andyhadfield will give
you a little insight into our musings, but for something a little more crisp,
you might want to read Vinography
founder and editor Alder Yarrow thoughts on South African wines.
But I
digress.
Lebogang is
an interesting guy. Expanding on his simple mantra, Lebogang defines his
philosophy on matters design and development, by suggesting that “Every experience, requires thought before an answer can be. To
research, to think of ideas, to expand the mind beyond the obvious, to imagine,
to dream. After that, we create.”
And so
his philosophy embraces: Dream, Create.
From
there his approach is a simple one. “Research, then Develop.”
Focused on new
media, Lebogang researches and develops effective and sustainable new media
strategies to achieve his clients’ objectives, researching and developing new
technologies to establish sustainable new businesses (and/or processes). Through,
mobile and web technologies.
The inherent
principle is to bridge the divide digitally. “Because we are African,” he says.
It is as
simple as that.
A photographic Tour de Force
I came across Lebogang when, as an aspiring amateur
photographer, I chanced upon 75.co.za, a daily collaborative photographic project that
Lebogang initiated, born of a desire to see more day to day photography from
other people.
Upon conceptualising 75.co.za, he
invited a couple of people to join him, and these initial `grapher's (also
known as Lebogang’s rock-stars), invited whom-ever they wanted, the circle
growing bigger over time. Limited to just one photograph a day, every other day,
to “induce a sense and appreciation of photography”, 75.co.za now hosts some 5,545 photographs, 42,666 comments, and more than 125 ‘graphers.
Unexpected
Now a
well established member of the 75.co.za ‘grapher community, I see the
unexpected every time I login. One of the few white contributors to the
community, I am constantly amazed, and refreshed at how we all see the world
through different eyes, born of different experiences, producing different
results. And yet, at heart, we all simply love the visual image.
Dream, Create.
It’s as simple as that.

Here are a few of the images I
have taken in recent months, that the 75.co.za community has showered with a
little love.
Welcome
Welcome
to our home. The men and women of the Masai welcome us with song and dance, to
their home. Amboseli, Kenya.
Mother's Day
Sunday
was Mother's Day.
It was
supposed to be about her. But like all good Mother's it seemed to be once
again, about us.
And
she poured herself onto the most fertile of soils.
And
touched our hearts.
Swinging times
This was taken late afternoon,
22nd April, at the Boskruin Community Centre. Yep, that's right. Election Day
in South Africa, the 3rd since 1994 when South Africa gave birth to the Rainbow
Nation.
Today, whilst the queues formed,
and people voted, the kids were on the swings and roundabouts.
Every-one was having a swinging
time.
South Africa has come a long
way.
I'm pretty proud to be a part of
its story.
